GRASSROOTS 2023 HOLIDAY GIVING

GRASSROOTS – 2023 HOLIDAY GIVING -  Our church has for many years supported Grassroots in their Holiday Wish campaign.   Last year we donated over $2,700 to help support community families in need through this Holiday Gift Card Giving Program.  Due to ongoing health and safety concerns and the ability to serve more people in need they are again asking for GIFT CARD ONLY HOLIDAY GIVING   Gift cards in  $25 and $50 amounts to Walmart, Target and Amazon (physical cards only) will allow individuals to select toys, clothing and other items for their families. Gift cards of $25 or $50 from Giant, Safeway, Aldi’s or Weis Markets would help purchase food or prescription medication. We will be delivering our gift card donations on Friday, December 1, 2023.  

You may purchase and put in church collection basket at church with Attn:  Grassroots Holiday Giving Drive on envelope  OR send to the church at:  The Orthodox Church of St. Matthew, P.O. Box 2003, Columbia, MD  21045   ATTN: Robin,  Grassroots Holiday Giving Drive. 

Robin Zahor is the chairperson this year, you can also give gift cards directly to her. 

The Howard County Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center:

• Is a multi-service center in Howard County providing 24-hour crisis intervention
• Is a walk-in counseling program and is the first point of contact for homeless services
• Operates a 33-bed emergency family shelter, an 18-bed men’s shelter and can house up to five families short-term in a motel shelter
• Serves three meals daily for up to 50 shelter residents

The Orthodox Church of St. Matthew has been supporting Grassroots in various capacities for many years:

• Items needed for donation are announced at Liturgy and in the Sunday Bulletin
• Grassroots compiles a Holiday Wish List every fall, and the parish decorates a “Giving Tree” with gifts from the list
